What does it mean to be flatfooted?

Some of us are born with flatfoot (pes valgus). There is a distinction between a so-called mobile flatfoot and a rigid flatfoot. Most people with flatfoot have a mobile foot structure.

With mobile flatfoot, the foot can assume a normal position, and an arch is visible when standing on tiptoes. With rigid flatfoot, the arch is not visible, even when standing on tiptoes. This type of flatfoot is the most painful, and it can be challenging to find regular shoes that fit properly.

Typical symptoms of flatfoot:

  • The foot collapses inward (overpronation)
  • Tension in muscles and connective tissue radiating up into the pelvis and lower back
  • Discomfort in the knees
  • Shin splints
  • Discomfort in the lower back and back
  • Soreness or pain in the midfoot and arch

Causes of flatfoot

There are various reasons why you might have flatfoot. Some people are born with it, while others develop it over time.

  • Hereditary factors
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Short Achilles tendon
  • Foot injuries, such as severe fractures or ligament tears
  • Weak or non-functional arch muscles

Both children and adults can be affected by flatfoot. If you suspect your child has flatfoot, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible to address the problem.

As a flatfooted individual, you will greatly benefit from our 3D-printed insoles. When you choose insoles from ZOLESĀ®, you will quickly notice a difference – the insole supports the arch by recreating the natural arch of the foot.

It is very important for your performance and comfort that the arch support has the correct length, curve, and height, and that it is properly positioned relative to the heel bone, navicular bone, and the 5th metatarsal (the joint where the big toe begins).

At ZOLESĀ®, we 3D-print all of our insoles to fit your feet perfectly and address the discomfort you experience. Every foot is different, which is why we believe it’s essential to custom-make each pair of insoles to fit individual feet.

To give your feet the best possible support, we have carefully selected the materials we use to design the insoles. The insole is made from a flexible, dynamic material that supports the arch without restricting the foot’s natural rolling motion during walking and running.
